Bronchoscopy: lung cancer diagnosis

A lighted, flexible tube is passed through the mouth into the bronchi. This test can help find tumors and take samples of tissue or fluids to see if cancer cells are present. After a lung cancer has been diagnosed, bronchoscopy is used to thoroughly check the lining of other airways in the lungs. If another cancer is found that is not close to the first one, it may not be possible to surgically remove all of the cancerous tissue.
